Two hundred and thirty thousand women have the opportunity to compete for NCAA national titles each year. In this session, NCAA Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Deena Casiero, described the concerns that athletes want addressed most: mental health and body image. She also described the challenges current women collegiate athletes face, including social media use’s impact on body image, pressures associated with name, image, and likeness (NIL) deals, and online harassment. Dr. Casiero shared her vision for prioritizing women’s health and better meeting the needs of collegiate female athletes.

This inspiring panel highlighted FURTHER, an ambitious six-day ultramarathon event designed to push the limits of female athlete performance and generate valuable sports science insights.
Panelists shared the intense preparation, strategic organization, collaborative teamwork, and adaptability required to bring FURTHER to life. Athletes Leah and Kayla offered first-hand accounts of their experiences and reflected on how participating in FURTHER has shaped their future in sport.

In this session, FORUM experts Dr. Christino, Dr. Franklin, Dr. Matzkin, and Dr. Wittstein will describe common sports medicine injuries and surgical outcomes for female athletes. They will also explain how female physiology may impact the recovery process post-op.

We are excited to announce #2025FAC keynote speaker, Scout Bassett!
Scout is a Paralympic track and field athlete and paratriathlete. She is a 7-time National Champion in the 100m and the current World Record holder in the 400m and America’s Record holder in the 200m. She won 3 silver medals and 1 bronze medal at the ITU Paratriathlon World Championships. In addition to her athletic achievements, Scout is the Women’s Sports Foundation Board President, a Gatorade Women’s Advisory Board member, and co-host of BBC Sport’s acclaimed podcast On the Podium. She is a mentor, activist for people with disabilities, athlete ambassador, and motivational speaker. She authored the book LUCKY GIRL in September 2023 and founded the Scout Bassett Fund, which offers financial grants to young athletes with disabilities.

Clara Hughes is a cyclist and speed skater and is the only athlete in Olympic history to win multiple medals in both summer and winter games, representing Canada. In addition to her incredible athletic accomplishments, she is a philanthropist and advocate for mental health. As the founding spokesperson for Bell Let’s Talk, a campaign designed to end the stigma attached to mental illness, Hughes helped jumpstart the conversation on mental health in Canada. She believes in the power of story to enact change and that each person has one to share.
